In this part of the world, winter is a time of awakening. The once dormant bulbs and annual seeds send up shoots, trees sprout new growth, and the landscape is transformed into lush greenness. The earth is covered with a sprinkling of white oxalis flowers, the first act of the West Coast flowering show. There is a sense of renewed beginnings.
